  • Benny Bell’s Shaving Cream Song

    From Wikipedia:

The original version of “Shaving Cream” was issued on Benny’s record label with Phil Winston on vocals under the pseudonym Paul Wynn, and as that name was also used by Bell himself, Winston’s version has often been mistaken for Bell’s, and has appeared on Benny Bell compilation albums more frequently than Bell’s own version. “Shaving Cream” uses a technique in which each verse suggests a rhyme with a certain rude word, but drops two beats before the chorus, which replaces the word with the title. The same concept was used in “Sweet Violets” and many other songs that Benny recorded.

There is a fantastic new book about Benny Bell called “Grandpa Had a Long One: Personal Notes on the Life, Career & Legacy of Benny Bell,” by his grandson, journalist Joel Samberg. All fans MUST get it! Part bio, part memoir, it’s almost like “Tuesdays with Morrie,” but from a completely different and nutty world. Check out the book’s website at http://www.bennybellbook.webs.com. There’s also a YouTube video about it that you can find by typing Benny Bell Book into the search bar. Enjoy!

Please feel free to share this eBay Benny Bell record news with all your friends and viewers.

Benny Bell was one of the funniest, wackiest, hardest-working and most resilient entertainers ever to come out of vaudeville and the Borscht Belt. His classic novelty songs include “Shaving Cream,” “Take a Ship for Yourself,” “Everybody Wants My Fanny,” “Pincus the Peddler,” “Ikey & Mikey,” “Sweet Violets,” “Home Again (Without Pants)” and dozens of others.

We have a few rare 45 rpm pressings of “Home Again (Without Pants)” that are being bundled with a second Benny Bell single at extremely low prices. When you consider that these records can be viewed as collector’s items from a very special time from a very special entertainer, you’ll want to get in on the good deal. Not many copies of “Home Again (Without Pants),” which was one of Benny Bell’s craziest songs, were manufactured. We have most of the remaining copies. Now you can have one–along with a second 45 for no additional charge.

Whether you have a record player to play them on or not, these two Benny Bell singles should be in your collection if you’re a lover of classic novelty songs!
